Atani Taranis

Introduction

Kind, polite and endlessly patient, Atani is a hard-working employee of the Adventurers' Guild, often manning the levedesk or cleaning up the questboard and, on occasion, accompanying adventurers into the field as a healer. The first impression of a gentle creature unsuited for the hardships of the outside world invites one to underestimate her, but something in her stance and confident motions suggests the opposite: that she is a far more resilient being than she lets on.

In a world where I could have been anything, I have chosen to be kind.

At A Glance

Adventurers' Guild

Adventurers will recognize Atani as one of the many workers of the guild, and may have occasionally taken quests from her or collected their rewards from her. She's known as kind-hearted and outgoing, but also as a knowledgeable professional.

Knowing Gaze

Despite her harmless presentation - a modest height, a friendly face and a charming voice -, there's a knowing look in Atani's eyes that suggests she's not as naive as her appearance and demeanor might otherwise lead one to believe.

Capable Conjurer

Atani is trained in the art of conjury, and can easily be recognized as a mage in her adventuring gear: the wide-brimmed, pointed hat and her wooden staff make the Gridanian influence on her approach to spellcasting readily apparent.

Prim and Proper

Atani takes her work seriously, and one of the many ways that manifests is her well-kempt appearance: a neat, tidy hairstyle is accompanied by high-quality clothes that combine form and function into an elegant, semi-formal outfit no matter the occasion.

Clanless Seeker

The absence of a spoken pause in her name is no mistake: as traveling merchants, Atani's family has broken away from the traditions of her people. By integrating the letter of her tribe into her name, Atani maintains a small, personal connection to them.

Hooks

Adventurers' Guild

As an employee of the Adventurer's Guild, Atani's responsibilities include interviewing adventurers regarding recent undertakings, ensuring the quest board is properly maintained, accepting postings from clients, handing out rewards and assisting adventurers in whatever ways they might require. Occasionally, she'll even accompany a party into the field herself.

Antelope Tribe

Atani's parents were part of the antelope tribe until they decided to split off and pursue their own interests as traveling merchants; although she has no immediate connection to this past herself, her family has nevertheless maintained largely positive relations. It wouldn't be unusual for someone to connect the dots, or ask her about the lack of a spoken pause in her name.

Capable Conjurer

Atani is trained in the art of and may use her skillset to assist adventurers in need - both in the field and back at the guild, where they might require treatment for injuries sustained during their travels. While her combat experience is limited at best and her offensive spellwork is considerably lacking, she has a notable talent for both defensive magicks and utility spells.

Hybrid Healer

Although Atani has learned the same fundamentals as any other conjurer- earth, wind and water-, she specializes in water-based magicks and can cast water-based spells at far greater effectiveness than other elements. This has led her to develop a somewhat distinct hybrid style of healing, making use of liquids, potions and gels alongside aether rather than relying purely on magic healing.

Off The Clock

Despite her love for her work, Atani is not always 'on duty': between her travels and misadventures, she still needs to eat, drink, sleep and have fun. It's not unusual to see her exploring the various cities and towns her work takes her to, either to participate in festivities or to try out a different way of life.

Story

"I do appreciate the interest, really, but I'm not very interesting. My parents were merchants, and they always wanted me to be happy in life, so when I told them I wanted to be an adventurer, they made sure I'd have the training, education and equipment required to be one.I grew up in Vylbrand, but I had a knack for conjury, so my parents sent me to Gridania when I was in my teens to study the art there. I'm a capable healer, but I've learned I'm not very good at offensive magicks, so that has always been an obstacle on my path to fame.I eventually realized, much to my own embarrassment, that I like the idea of being an adventurer more than the practical aspects of it. Sleeping under the stars, eating dried foods and bathing in rivers is fun in moderation, but not when you do it nearly every single day.…I do still like helping people, though, so I looked into other ways of doing that- and, well, between my education, my general knowledge of the world and my connections, I ended up working for the guild not as adventurer, but as levemete, receptionist and observer. It's mostly paperwork. Reading and writing for those who can't, accepting requests from clients, preparing and handing out rewards, registering new adventurers and logging their quests… but every now and then, I get to help and guide others in the field!…And there you go. That's my story. I told you, it's not very interesting, but maybe now you can tell me yours?"

Player Notes
caffeine, she/they, late 20s, trans woman, butch lesbian, EU.
DNI: AI enthusiasts, bigots of any kind, fetish characters (i.e. F+), minors.
My wisdom for you: remember to be kind, or you will be reincarnated as a dung beetle in your next life.
Roleplay Themes
I like dark fantasy, adventure plots, grounded narratives, rehumanization arcs & character-driven scenes.
I dislike comedy-focused scenes, modern-day vibes, aimless slice of life and high power level stuff.
I enjoy hosting little events for people from time to time, but mainly do that for my RP FC.
Lore Proximity
I'm happy to "yes, and" things for as long as they maintain high verisimilitude, but when ideas start directly opposing existing canon and story beats, I lose interest fast. I'm okay with adding to the lore, but I'd rather not engage with major rewrites.
First Contact
Be cool and I'll be cool! Don't be cool and I won't be cool. Please understand that I cannot read your mind, so if you're interested in roleplaying with me, make note of that - otherwise I'll assume we're just chit-chatting and socializing (which is fine too).
